After the death of D'Amato and manager Jimmy Jacobs, Tyson was joined by controversial promoter Don King. He has made ten successful defenses for his heavyweight world title, including defeating his former champions, Larry Holmes and Michael Spinks. In 1988 Tyson married Robin Givens, but the two split in 1989 amid allegations that Tyson was physically abusive. A number of charges of assault and assault against Tyson were later filed.
